Why I Photograph on Film

I photograph on film because it slows me down. It returns me to the body, to light on skin, wind through sleeves, the hush before a shutter clicks. With film, I do not shoot to confirm. I shoot to trust.

Digital promises immediacy, control, and abundance. But those are not what I seek. I want slowness. I want to miss the shot sometimes. I want to press the shutter once and walk away not knowing, only feeling.

Each frame is a choice. Not a selection among many, but a commitment to one. Film does not let me perfect. It lets me observe. It teaches me to wait for light rather than chase it. To hold still, not scroll. To see, not scan.

When I walk with a film camera, I see the sun. I feel the breeze. I hear the steps of the people I photograph. I carry fewer images, but more memory. Fewer files, but deeper presence.

I do not photograph to possess. I photograph to participate. And film, with all its ritual and risk, reminds me: one image is enough, if it is made with care.
